Three ingredients. Nothing else.

We remove where the rest of the category adds. Most body butters are built up: water to stretch them, emulsifiers to bind the water, preservatives to hold it, thickeners, cheap carrier oils, fragrance. A typical "shea with squalane" on the market is really a cream with anywhere from 17 to over 40 ingredients, where squalane sits far down the list.

Shea Ren goes the opposite way. Three ingredients — each with a measurable function. No water, no emulsifier, no preservative (it's unnecessary without water), no fragrance, no filler.

The shea butter is the core. Shea has an unusually high unsaponifiable fraction — the part of the fat that isn't ordinary fatty acids but bioactive triterpene esters, phytosterols and natural tocopherols. Where most plant oils sit around 1%, shea sits many times higher. That is shea's real signature — chemically documented, not a marketing word. We use unrefined, cold-pressed West African shea, because refining strips out precisely that fraction. And shea carries a genuine, documented West African history — used for over a thousand years, and one of the few raw materials controlled by women.

Despite its origin as a tree nut, shea is remarkably low-allergen: it contains none of the proteins that trigger nut allergy.

We lighten shea with squalane — not with water or a cheaper oil. Squalane is a skin-identical lipid, the stable form of the squalene that makes up about an eighth of the skin's own sebum. Where others lighten shea by whipping in water (and are then forced into emulsifier and preservative) or by stretching it with a cheap carrier oil, we remove the shortcut and use the lipid itself. Derived from olives, non-comedogenic, for all skin types.

Tocopherol keeps the fats fresh. A natural antioxidant — functional, not decoration.

Unscented throughout — also for those of you with fragrance sensitivity. For all skin types, every day.

Vandfri — derfor

Ingen vand.

Ingen animalske fedtstoffer.

Shea or tallow?

Both are rich, protective butters that sit like a layer on the skin. We love beef tallow — in our soaps, and in our lip balm.

But a whipped butter stays on the skin, and there we choose shea butter: plant-based, and with a natural fraction of unsaponifiable material (triterpene esters and tocopherols) that is preserved when the shea is cold-pressed and unrefined. It's the right fat for the right purpose — not the cheapest.

What is squalane?

Squalane is a skin-identical lipid.
Squalene makes up about an eighth of the skin's own sebum; squalane is the stable form that doesn't go rancid. It makes the whip lighter and less greasy — without us adding a soft oil that could go rancid in the jar.

It's more expensive than ordinary plant oils. We use it because it's stable and skin-friendly, not because it's cheap.
Our squalane is derived from olives. It's non-comedogenic — it doesn't clog pores — and suits all skin types.

What is a CO2 extract?

Most natural products use a pressed oil: you press the seed and out comes mostly carrier fat with a tiny bit of active. We do it differently when we add an active.

A CO2 extract is drawn out with CO2 under pressure, which then evaporates without a trace — zero solvent residue. What's left is the concentrated active fraction, not diluted in foreign oil. That lets us dose the active precisely and in an amount that actually works. It's the cleanest extraction method there is.

Note: Whip SHEA REN deliberately contains no extract — only the pure three-ingredient base. It's RENEW (pomegranate seed) and HEAL (calendula) that add one active, both as a CO2 extract. If you want an active in your butter, those are the ones to look at.

The INCI list is on every product page.

Om duften

Alle vores shea body butters er uparfumerede — vi tilsætter ingen duft. Men uparfumeret er ikke det samme som duftfri: uraffineret sheasmør har sin egen naturlige, milde nøddeduft med en diskret jordet note.

Derfor dufter vores mildt.

How to use it

Take a small amount between your fingers and let the warmth melt it before you spread it. The whip turns liquid at skin temperature, so a little goes a long way — a 30 ml jar lasts a long time. Use on clean, dry skin.
(RENEW: ideally in the evening — longer contact time on the skin.)

Storage

Room temperature, dark. Not the fridge, not a hot car. It's temperature fluctuations that make the airy structure collapse — not heat itself.
